How it started

From World Book Day to the wider world.

  1. Ten years ago

    Painting the family

It began at home, painting her own children for World Book Day and Halloween. Four children means plenty of practice, and plenty of volunteers.

  2. Along the way

    A little encouragement

Gemma's partner thought the hobby deserved a wider audience. He encouraged her to go professional and set up her Facebook page.

  3. Three years ago

    The Creepy Cow Shed

Her first professional nudge was a booking at The Creepy Cow Shed pumpkin-picking event at The Little Cow Shed.

  4. Today

Brush in one hand, club in the other

Gemma is assistant manager at Mossley School's before and after-school and holiday club, and still paints at events across the region.

Why the Name?

Wizard of Arts is a heartfelt tribute to Gemma's beloved grandmother, Dorothy, or Dot as she was affectionatly known. A playful nod to The Wizard of Oz, the name honors a woman who brought boundless joy and fun to everyone she met. To preserve her memory, Gemma named this professional face painting business after Dorothy as a special legacy. With every brushstroke, Gemma continues to spread the exact same magical, happy moments that her grandmother shared with her.

Two careers, one brush

Artist first. Childcare pro always.

Gemma has worked in childcare for 20 years and is a qualified childcare practitioner. She is currently assistant manager at Mossley School's before/after-school and holiday club. That means she knows how to settle a shy child, keep a queue calm and read a room full of excited guests.

She loves painting florals, and she especially loves painting children who have never had face paint before.

Based in Congleton, working across both counties and happy to travel farther. Just ask.

Professional face paints

Chosen with sensitive skin in mind. Skin reactions are still possible, so do mention any concerns beforehand.

Off the clock

Gemma is a huge cat lover. Her one-eyed British Shorthair is the love of her life. Her other cat, Merlin, is a proper home-cat, and Basil is a scruffy little dachshund cross poodle. There is plenty of furry company at home.
